Line Shack manufactures a post and beam structure with log fill. In using this type of construction you can realize several advantages not seen in traditional log structures. First: Post and beam construction uses vertical uprights positioned throughout the wall package to support the roof structure. Using this method, the roof system does not settle. Second: Since the roof structure does not settle, all interior walls can be of conventional construction without the need of slip joints or screw jacks. Third: Vertical uprights are placed on each side of a window with the top "header log" notched into each vertical. Windows are then mounted to the verticals, eliminating the need for settling splines. Fourth: In using the post and beam short log construction, the home owner can have the option of changing log profiles or even log species from room to room. This is done with the use of a vertical upright at the junction of an interior wall coming off of the outer log shell. Other options such as stone or brick can be utilized in the same manor. Fifth: Post and beam construction takes advantage of the short log. Virtually all of the log shell package can be assembled by one or two people with the use of only a ladder. No cranes are needed! The log wall panels between the vertical uprights are on a spline system. The only settling that occurs in a Line Shack structure is limited to the weight of the wall panel itself and not the weight of the roof, as shown in our construction diagram. Line Shack offers two log profiles:
Exposed sawn surfaces can be left as is, sanded or textured. The log construction uses a flat on flat stack. Between each coarse of log there are two rows of closed cell foam tape to provide a weather seal. The same method is used at the vertical connections. All joints are chinked inside and out for a four-way seal. Line Shack produces a shell package only. We deal in basically anything that is log. A lot kit from us includes the following:
We offer on sight instruction or video instruction to make kit assembly a "breeze". Line Shack has designed a log package that is user friendly. We encourage the do-it-yourself approach. Several of our customers have taken advantage of our convenient design and have had an old fashioned "barn raising" event complete with barbecue. If you would rather let someone else do the building for you we will find a reputable builder in your area to take your log fantasy to the highest level of satisfaction. Line Shack will work you through the whole design process. No book of basic plans to choose from here! We would rather build the home you want than the home we built for someone else last week.
